Species: Okapi

Integrating natural history, the unique individuals, and exhibit design allows us to create a list of desired behaviors:
- Foraging
- Self maintenance – Grooming
- Social grooming
- Rubbing on objects
- Diurnal, with some additional activity during the first hours of darkness
- Primary sensory modalities: Sound and smell
- Scent marking: urinating, defecating, tarry dermal exudates
- Walking/running
- Hiding in foliage
- Feed solely on leaves and opportunistically on fruit/other items
- Rest on beds of leaf litter
These behaviors may be encouraged through permanent exhibit structures, rotating items, social opportunities, interactions with keepers and more.
